A number of you have asked about insurance cover for volunteer activities, and we have checked with our corporate insurers. We are advised that the Council’s insurance policy does cover Community Council volunteers, as the work of Community Councils is “indirectly controlled” by local authorities, due to our statutory duties. This would cover most aspects of your volunteering role in your community, but would not include motorised transport. However, we are also advised that the Association of British Insurers (ABI) have confirmed that all private motor insurance policies will now automatically cover volunteering for coronavirus-related activity
